The World's Spare Change

Would you ask the entire world for $1?

A little spare change got me to the movies. Having the courage to ask opened the door.

Just watch the story

The Friday I learned to ask.

A 60-second Friday movie about the courage to ask — and the people who make saying it out loud feel possible.

About me

Hey, my name’s S J. This is a true story.

How it began

I wanted to go to the movies. I was short. I asked anyway.

Fridays meant movies with a big mixed group of friends — parents dropped us off. I already had a job, but that Friday, I was short on movie money. I wanted to go with my friends, and asking one person for the whole amount felt uncomfortable. Then I wondered: what if I asked several friends for a little spare change?

What door have you been afraid to open?

Sometimes the uncomfortable part isn’t hearing “no.” It’s getting yourself to ask.

Your challenge: Make one ask this week.

Choose something that matters to you. Ask clearly and respectfully. Give the other person room to say no.

You can’t control the answer. But you can give yourself the possibility of a yes.

Made the ask? Email sjworldssparechange@gmail.com with one sentence. A no counts. I will post the count, not your name.

Ask. That's it. End of notes.

— Jim Rohn, How to Get Whatever You Want / The Challenge to Succeed.

That's the part I keep coming back to: asking gives a yes a chance, and a no is still okay.

Honest note

Where contributions go

Contributions go to me personally — less payment-processing fees. This isn't a charity. There is no product, prize, or financial return promised in exchange.

Contributing is optional. The story stands alone — following along and sharing are free.

What this is

A personal experiment about the courage to ask. Tips go to me personally, less fees.

What this isn't

Not a nonprofit. Not tax-deductible. Not a promised product, return, or prize.

Same lesson. New ask.

One dollar. Let's see what asking can open.

If this reminder to ask helped you, tip a dollar. If not, no hard feelings.

Under 13, please don't tip. Ages 13 to 17, a parent or guardian should be with you and be the one paying.

THE JAR

The jar is shut.

The jar is a bet with myself, not a prize for you.

I will post ordinary updates either way. $1,000 is a milestone I set, not a balance I have. When it is reached, I will say in public what I did with the money. Until then that one question stays shut.
